Jefferson County Public Schools Student/School Assignment

Jefferson County Public Schools' (JCPS) student/school assignment is intimately linked with walking, cycling and safe streets issues. We encourage JCPS to give make every effort to accommodate the school choice of students and parents who will commit to walking or bicycling to school.

Jefferson County Public Schools role in Metro Louisville's Pedestrian Summit was a shameful dissappointment. JCPS did not even send a representative to the day-long session on Safe Routes to School. JCPS argues that it does not want to be liable for encouraging students to walk and bicycle to school. The Pedestrian Right-of-Way ordinance should be so structured as to put liability on the drivers, not our schools.
